Soil is an upcoming Belgian drama series, for which pricipal recording started in July 2020. The series is produced by Lunanime and will be shown on the Belgian channel Play4, as well as Netflix. A project that is different, not only because it's the first production I'm working on during Covid, but also because the series is a tragicomedy about death, and in the early stages of this production, I lost my mother Tania Rens to cancer. Working on this series was a cathartic experience. And everything I designed, is dedicated to her. Rest in peace, mom.

Anyone who, as a Muslim, kicks the bucket in Belgium, saddles their next of kin with a delicate dilemma: “Do we bury them here or in the country of origin?” The young Ishmael ‘Smile’ Boulasmoum, who together with his sister inherits his father’s repatriation business, finds a solution: what if we bring soil from Morocco to bury our dead in it? We’re starting a business in soil! Without realizing it, they open Pandora’s ‘coffin’.

The series is currently being shot, but Netflix and SBS already released some promotional material.
